NOTES:

  • This week, Dr. Glenn Vo finally got Dylan Brockman—CEO of Brockman Health—to take a break from hooking the Nifty Thrifty community up with affordable healthcare and sit down for another episode of the Nifty Thrifty podcast.
  • Dylan’s team consists of experienced agents with an honest, transparent, and educational approach. They’re dedicated to providing innovative health and life insurance solutions for self-employed individuals, families, small business owners, and contract workers.
  • One of the big reasons why Dylan wanted to hop onto the podcast was to talk about the window for open enrollment—from November 1st to December 15th—and bring awareness to practice owners about the importance of taking advantage.
  • For those unfamiliar with open enrollment, it’s a six-week window when insurance companies open their gates to accept anybody and everybody. That’s a big deal because very few companies allow folks to suddenly jump on their plans—and the ones that do allow that will usually require you to have some “special life event” going on.
  • If you miss the open enrollment period, all is not lost—you still have options, and sometimes there are even extensions. That said, the remaining options might come with the risk of overpaying or being left undercovered (Dylan even refers to these as “Swiss cheese” plans because of their holes and gaps).
  • Believe it or not, Dylan’s services are “free.” He has contracts with the insurance companies, and that’s how he’s compensated. There’s no nickel-and-diming involved—it’s completely free for Dylan’s customers to use his services—and he gets the same compensation no matter the company he works with.
  • A free consultation with Dylan just takes a concise, 5-10 minute phone call. In that short amount of time, Dylan can gain a thorough understanding of your budget and specific needs—whether related to therapy, doctor visits, specialists, or specific medications—before presenting you with multiple options to compare, contrast, and figure out what works best for your unique situation.
  • Dylan knows what it’s like to be a small business owner. Prior to getting a start in the insurance industry, he was an entrepreneur himself. He ran into the same problems, struggling to find a way to offer health insurance benefits that would fit into his budget.
  • He was stuck between two disparate options. One option was a costly plan that made a lot of sense. The other option was an affordable plan that offered high deductibles, crazy amounts of barriers to entry before getting benefits, and so on.
  • Dylan thinks a big reason so many practice owners run into this problem is that they simply don’t know where to find the right programs. He believes that “there are a lot of options out there for you so long as you know where to look.”
  • For the past five years, Dylan has been doing just that—helping people (self-employed people, small business owners, families, etc.)—with finding affordable healthcare.
